A Note on the T2's Numbers
One thing worth flagging before going further. Jetour's UAE page advertises the T2 i-DM at up to 600 hp and 915 Nm with 4x4, while a 2026 specification document shows a considerably lower-output front-drive configuration. Both are genuine, for different variants or markets. The figures above are the UAE page's so before buying, confirm in writing which configuration your specific vehicle has. This is the single easiest way to be disappointed by a car like this.
Two Different Ideas of a Hybrid SUV
The T2 i-DM is built around going places: Jetour's official specifications highlight dual motors, 4x4 capability, a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, 70 cm wading depth and an external power supply for running equipment off the battery.
The Ti 7 is built around living with: the official BYD UAE page emphasises DM-p hybrid performance, premium seating, cabin technology and flexible cargo space of up to 1,813 litres with the rear seats folded.
Power, and What It Actually Buys
On paper the T2 has a large advantage: 120 hp and 285 Nm more. Yet the Ti 7 is 0.2 seconds quicker to 100 km/h.
That tells you something useful. Acceleration depends on weight, gearing and traction, not headline power and it suggests the T2 carries the extra mass that off-road hardware brings. The T2's torque figure matters more for what it is designed to do: pulling through sand and up steep loose ground, where sustained pulling force counts for more than a sprint time.
4x4 vs AWD for Desert Driving
These terms get used loosely, so the practical difference: AWD systems generally send power to all four wheels automatically for traction on slippery or loose surfaces, while 4x4 usually implies more deliberate off-road hardware and driver-selectable modes.
For soft sand, the things that decide whether you get stuck are tyre pressure, momentum and driver skill — in roughly that order. Hardware helps, but no system compensates for over-inflated tyres.
Where the T2's setup earns its keep is repeated dune work, steep loose climbs and water crossings, with the 70 cm wading figure and underbody protection behind it. For highway and city driving, the Ti 7's AWD is the more relevant configuration, and the lighter approach usually rides better on tarmac.
Cabin and Practicality
The Ti 7 makes its case here, with premium seating, integrated cooling and that 1,813-litre maximum cargo figure. The T2's cabin follows its adventure brief. Both seat five. If the SUV spends most of its life on school runs and motorway trips, this section matters more than any power figure.
Safety
Both carry extensive driver-assistance equipment. It is worth being clear that a longer feature list is not the same thing as a better crash-test result — and no independent crash rating for either car is available to compare here, so neither can honestly be called the safer vehicle.
Price
| Model | UAE price |
|---|---|
| T2 i-DM Standard | AED 144,000 |
| T2 i-DM Flagship | AED 159,000 |
| Ti 7 Premium | AED 149,900 |
| Ti 7 Design | AED 165,900 |
The T2 undercuts the Ti 7 at both ends of the range, by AED 5,900 at entry level and AED 6,900 at the top — close enough that price alone should not decide this.
For Pakistani Readers
The Ti 7 is not sold in Pakistan, and the T2 i-DM offered here is a different, front-wheel-drive configuration — see our Jetour T2 price in Pakistan guide and our report on Jetour T2 i-DM local assembly. Do not assume the UAE figures above apply to the local car. The Jetour T2 facelift 2026 adds another version to keep straight, and we covered the brand's local presence at Jetour Pakistan at PAPS 2026.
What the Comparison Really Shows
These two approach the same formula from opposite directions, so the honest answer depends on use.
Desert and weekend off-road use: the T2's 4x4 hardware, wading depth and torque are the relevant equipment.
City and highway commuting: the Ti 7's comfort focus and quicker acceleration suit the job better.
Family use: the Ti 7's cargo flexibility and cabin are the stronger case. For another large PHEV SUV comparison, see Denza B8 vs Tank 500 PHEV, and on the BYD side, JAECOO J5 Premium Plus vs BYD Atto 3.
Final Thoughts
In Jetour T2 i-DM vs BYD Ti 7, the T2 brings more torque, off-road hardware and a slightly lower price; the Ti 7 brings quicker acceleration, a more comfort-focused cabin and greater cargo flexibility. Neither is the better SUV in the abstract the deciding question is where yours will spend its weekends. Whichever you choose, confirm the exact configuration and the market specification before signing.
