The updated Geely EX5 has launched in China with a serious technical upgrade: rear-wheel drive, an 800V architecture, 6C fast charging, 329 hp and up to 635 km of claimed range, with LiDAR on selected variants.
One thing to be clear about from the start: these are China-market specifications. Geely has not confirmed this configuration for Pakistan, and the prices below are in yuan, not rupees.
What Has Changed
The higher variants move from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, gain an 800V electrical architecture with 6C charging, a more powerful motor, larger battery options and LiDAR-based driver assistance.
The entry version keeps its 400V, front-wheel-drive layout, so the headline figures do not apply across the whole range. Full details are on Geely's official EX5 page.
329 hp and Rear-Wheel Drive
The rear-mounted motor produces 245 kW (329 hp) and 320 Nm, with a claimed 0–100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
The switch to RWD matters beyond the numbers. With the motor driving the rear wheels, the front wheels handle steering alone, which usually means cleaner steering feel and better traction under hard acceleration. It is the layout most performance-oriented EVs use.
800V and 6C Charging
This is the most significant upgrade. The 800V architecture supports up to 6C charging with a peak of around 460 kW, and 10–70% in 8 minutes 25 seconds under normal ambient conditions.
Higher voltage moves more power with less heat, which is what makes charging that quick possible at all. The qualifier matters though: charging slows in extreme heat or cold, and in Pakistani summers that is not a small detail.
The bigger caveat is the charger. A car that can accept 460 kW still only receives what the charger delivers and Pakistan's fastest public units are far below that. Our coverage of the 120 kW EV charger in Multan shows where the local ceiling currently sits, and our guide to EV charging stations in Pakistan covers the wider network.
Battery and Range
Three Aegis Golden short-blade LFP batteries are offered:
| Battery | CLTC | WLTP |
|---|---|---|
| 60.22 kWh | 530 km | 429 km |
| 61.52 kWh | 550 km | 446 km |
| 70.01 kWh | 635 km | 514 km |
Two different test cycles — not two versions of the same number.
Compare the columns and the point makes itself: the same 70.01 kWh car is rated at 635 km on CLTC but 514 km on WLTP. CLTC is China's cycle and is optimistic; WLTP is stricter and closer to what you would actually see. When a headline quotes 635 km, that is the friendlier of the two figures. LFP chemistry, meanwhile, is well suited to hot climates and long cycle life.
LiDAR and Driver Assistance
Selected variants add LiDAR and the G-Pilot H5 system, using 27 sensors, with urban and highway navigation-assisted driving and automated parking, according to launch reporting.
LiDAR measures distance with laser pulses rather than interpreting camera images, which helps in poor light and difficult weather. Worth remembering that assisted driving features are designed and validated for the road environments where they launch behaviour on Pakistani roads would need its own assessment.
Interior
Inside there is a 15.4-inch 2.5K screen running Flyme Auto 2, a head-up display, a 23-speaker audio system, wireless charging and a 160-litre frunk — the front storage space an EV gets in place of an engine, useful for charging cables so they are not rolling around the boot.
Price in China
Reported limited-time China pricing runs from 97,800 to 137,800 yuan across five core variants. That is the China-market figure only converting it to rupees would tell you nothing useful, since duties, taxes, freight and local positioning decide a Pakistani price. The China-market model is listed on Geely's Galaxy E5 page (Chinese-language site).
What About Pakistan?
Nothing has been confirmed. There is no announcement that this updated RWD, 800V, 6C version is coming to Pakistan, and no local price or specification.
If a version does arrive, the questions to ask are the ones this article raises: which battery, 400V or 800V, front- or rear-wheel drive, and which driver-assistance hardware. Those differences are large enough that "the EX5" could mean very different cars.
Charging is the other consideration. An 800V car is future-proof, but its advantage only appears at chargers that can use it — see EV charging stations on Pakistan motorways and the EV charging station finder in Pakistan.
Not to Be Confused With the EX5 EM-i
Geely also sells an EX5 EM-i, which is a hybrid and a different vehicle from the pure-electric EX5 covered here. Everything above the 800V system, the battery options, the CLTC ranges applies to the electric version only.
Final Thoughts
The updated Geely EX5 is a substantial step up: rear-wheel drive, 329 hp, an 800V system with 6C charging, up to 635 km CLTC (514 km WLTP) and LiDAR on selected variants though the entry car keeps 400V and front-wheel drive. All of it is China-market specification with no confirmed Pakistan version. If you are shopping for an EV here today, our guide to buying an EV in Pakistan covers the checks that matter.
