Thal Desert Rally 2026: Four Days of Racing and Action

The Thal Desert Rally 2026 schedule is set for November 5 to 8, and the 11th edition opens with a ceremony in Multan. Four districts of South Punjab are involved.

Here is what the Punjab Tourism Department has actually confirmed, what is still only reported, and one figure that does not hold up.

Thal Desert Rally 2026 Dates and Locations

The Punjab Tourism Department announced the schedule on 9 October 2026. The state news agency carried the official 11th Thal Jeep Rally announcement.

It confirms the rally runs from November 5 to 8, 2026. That is a Thursday to a Sunday, which gives the weekend to the main racing.

Detail Confirmed
Dates 5 to 8 November 2026
Edition 11th
Districts Multan, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Layyah
Host city Kot Addu
Opening ceremony Multan
Closing ceremony Faisal Stadium, Muzaffargarh
Track 200 kilometres

One line in that table deserves more attention than it is getting anywhere else. The opening ceremony is in Multan.

Most coverage lists three districts and leaves Multan out altogether. The official announcement names four, and ours is one of them.

So if you live here, the rally starts on your doorstep rather than two hours away. That is a short drive for the opening and a day trip for the racing.

Kot Addu is the designated host city. Muzaffargarh takes the closing ceremony at Faisal Stadium, and Layyah is the fourth district involved.

What the Official Schedule Actually Confirms

We have to be straight with you here, because this is where most schedule articles overreach.

The official announcement does not contain a day-by-day programme. It gives dates, districts, venues, the track length and a note about cultural events.

Day-by-day breakdowns are circulating, and they follow a sensible pattern. Registration and scrutineering come first. Then qualifying, then the stock race, then the remaining categories and the prizes.

That shape matches how previous editions ran. But it has not been published in the official announcement, so we are not going to print it as a timetable.

If you are planning a trip, book around the four dates rather than around a specific hour. Confirm the day you care about before you travel.

Thal Desert Rally Route and Track Length

You will see the track described as 210 kilometres. We checked that, and it does not stand up.

The official announcement says a 200-kilometre long track. That is the state agency's own wording.

And the same agency's report on last year's rally describes drivers chasing a 200 kilometre track as well. So 200 is corroborated twice.

The 210 figure appears in later coverage with no official source behind it. It may be a revision nobody has confirmed, or it may simply be an error.

Until the organisers publish a route map, treat 200 kilometres as the figure and treat 210 as unverified.

No route map or per-stage detail has been released either. The districts tell you the general area, not where to park and watch.

Racing Categories: What Is Confirmed and What Is Not

This part is less settled than it looks, so read it carefully.

The official announcement names no categories at all. It says only that domestic and international drivers will take part.

What we do know comes from last year's results, where the state agency reported a Prepared category and a Women's Prepared category.

Stock is the other long-standing class, for vehicles that have not been modified. Two-wheel and quad classes have featured in past editions too.

Expect a similar line-up this year. But no 2026 category list has been officially published, so do not count on a specific class until it is.

If you intend to enter rather than watch, that matters a great deal. No entry fee, registration deadline or eligibility rule has been announced publicly.

Cultural Shows and the Public Holiday Question

The rally has always been as much a festival as a race, and that is official this year too.

The announcement says the event will feature cultural programmes to promote the region's heritage and traditions. No individual show, performer or timing is named.

Now the part people are asking about. The tourism body said a public holiday would be announced for the final day of the event.

Read that wording closely. It says a holiday would be announced, not that one has been.

So do not plan a day off work on the strength of it. Wait for an actual notification before you tell anyone the Sunday is a holiday.

Thal Desert Rally 2025 Results and Past Winners

Last year's 10th edition gives you the best sense of the competition, and these results are officially reported.

2025 Prepared category Time
Faisal Shadi Khel 2:10:18
Nadir Magsi 2:14:57
Muhammad Raza Saeed 2:15:48

Look at how close that is. Five and a half minutes covered the top three over 200 kilometres of desert.

Second and third were separated by 51 seconds. Over that distance, that is a photo finish.

In the Women's Prepared category, Salma Khan Marwat won in 1:30:20, with Deena Patel second. No time was published for second place.

One warning about those numbers, because it is an easy mistake to make. Do not compare the two winning times.

A forty-minute gap over the same distance would be impossible at this level. The categories clearly run different course lengths.

The per-category distance has not been published, so there is no honest way to compare them. Anyone claiming one winner beat the other is reading the sheet wrong.

How to Check Official Event Updates

Two practical cautions, and both will save someone a wasted trip.

First, this rally has already been postponed twice. It was set for 9 to 11 October, then 16 to 18 October, before landing on November.

We tracked both moves in our report on the rescheduled Thal Jeep Rally dates.

Second, an older report about a rally starting on November 7 still circulates widely. That one is from the ninth edition, two years ago. Check the edition number before you trust a date.

The organiser is the Punjab tourism body, and its announcements reach the public through the state news agency first. That is where we check.

On the closing ceremony, hold it loosely. The official announcement says Faisal Stadium in Muzaffargarh, while other reports have named different venues and a specific evening time.

No official time has been published for it. Confirm the venue locally before the Sunday.

One last piece of advice, from fitting cars in this city for fifteen years. Desert dust gets everywhere. A set of carpet floor mats is worth having before a weekend out that way.

Final Thoughts

Three things are solid. The dates, the four districts with Multan among them, and a 200 kilometre track. Hourly timings, category lists and the public holiday are not official yet.

For anyone in Multan this is the easiest motorsport weekend of the year to reach. The opening is here and the racing is a short drive. Last year's margins show how competitive it has become.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Thal Desert Rally 2026?

From 5 to 8 November 2026, a Thursday to a Sunday. This is the 11th edition. Keep in mind that the event was already pushed back twice from October, so check before travelling.

Where will Thal Desert Rally 2026 take place?

Across four districts of South Punjab: Multan, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu and Layyah. Kot Addu is the designated host city. Multan hosts the opening ceremony, which most coverage leaves out.

What is the schedule for the four-day rally?

No hour-by-hour programme has been officially released. The announcement gives the four dates, the districts and the ceremony venues only. Day-by-day versions circulating online follow past practice but are not confirmed, so plan around the dates.

Which racing categories will compete?

The official announcement names none at all. Its only line on entrants is that drivers from Pakistan and abroad will compete. Last year's reported results covered a Prepared class and a Women's Prepared class, and Stock is the other long-standing one.

How long is the Thal Desert Rally track?

The official figure is 200 kilometres, and last year's rally ran the same distance. A 210 kilometre figure appears in some coverage without an official source, so treat 200 as the number until a route map is published.

Where will the closing ceremony take place?

Faisal Stadium in Muzaffargarh, according to the official announcement, which gives no time. Rival venues and an evening slot have appeared elsewhere, so this detail is not settled. Check locally in the days beforehand.

Who won the Thal Jeep Rally in 2025?

Faisal Shadi Khel won the Prepared category in 2:10:18, ahead of Nadir Magsi on 2:14:57 and Muhammad Raza Saeed on 2:15:48. Salma Khan Marwat won the Women's Prepared category in 1:30:20. Those two winning times are not comparable, because the classes do not run the same course length.

Will there be a public holiday for the rally?

The tourism body said a holiday would be announced for the final day, which is not the same as announcing one. No notification has been issued that we can point to. Do not treat the Sunday as a holiday until an official order exists.
