Pakistan plans EV fast chargers every 50 KM in Pakistan on major highways, as part of a target of about 3,000 public charging stations by 2030. The Ministry of Industries and Production gave the figures in a written reply to the National Assembly, reported between 23 and 25 October 2026. It is a plan, not a network that exists today. For stations you can use now, see our guide to EV charging stations in Pakistan.
Pakistan's Plan for EV Fast Chargers Every 50 KM
The ministry was answering a question from lawmaker Malik Shakir Bashir Awan. It said the New Energy Vehicle Policy 2025–30 plans charging points at intervals of about 50 kilometres on major highways, to support the growth of electric transport.
Treat that spacing with some care. Earlier reports on the same policy described the first fast chargers as about 120 kilometres apart, and the first phase is only 40 stations. So 50 km is the intended spacing for major highways over time, not what a driver should expect on the road next month.
40 Fast Chargers in the Initial Phase
| Plan item | What the ministry said |
|---|---|
| 2030 target | About 3,000 public EV charging stations |
| First phase | 40 fast-charging stations on motorways and selected sections of the N-5 |
| Highway spacing | Charging points about every 50 km on major highways |
| Charger types | Fast, Level 2 and Level 1 facilities to expand |
| Fuel stations | Encouraged to install EV charging units |
| Two- and three-wheelers | Battery-swapping stations planned |

The first phase is the one that matters most for road trips. If you plan a long drive today, our EV charging stations on Pakistan motorways guide lists what is actually available along each route.
3,000 Public EV Charging Stations by 2030
The 3,000 figure is a target for the whole country, covering fast chargers and slower Level 2 and Level 1 chargers, and it comes from the NEV Policy 2025–30 published by the Ministry of Industries and Production. Charging is also growing outside the policy. A 120 kW fast charger has already been added in DHA Multan, which we covered in our report on the 120 kW EV fast charger in Multan.
Fuel Stations, Battery Swapping and Investor Incentives
Under the policy, fuel stations will be encouraged to add EV chargers, so drivers can charge somewhere familiar. Battery-swapping stations are planned for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, where a quick swap suits daily commercial use better than waiting for a charge.
To attract private money, the government says it offers a dedicated commercial electricity tariff for charging stations, faster electricity connections and public-private partnerships that include viability gap funding. Business Recorder reported on the plan, and ProPakistani says 3,800 investors showed interest last year. The policy also covers collecting, reusing and recycling end-of-life EV batteries, mainly lithium-ion.
What the Plan Means for EV Owners
For EV owners the plan is good news for long-distance driving over the next few years, but it changes nothing at the plug today. Until the new stations are built, plan intercity trips around the chargers that already exist, and check that a charger is working before you rely on it. The Associated Press of Pakistan has also reported on the nationwide deployment plan.
Final Thoughts
The plan for EV fast chargers every 50 KM in Pakistan, 40 first-phase fast chargers and about 3,000 stations by 2030 shows where policy is heading. What matters now is delivery, so watch for tenders, locations and opening dates rather than targets alone.
