Transport accounts for roughly 24% of PM2.5 pollution in Greater Lahore, according to World Bank analysis of Lahore air pollution.
That number is worth reading both ways. Vehicles are a major contributor but around three quarters of the problem comes from elsewhere: industry, brick kilns, crop-residue burning, construction dust and waste burning. Keep servicing on schedule. A poorly tuned engine burns fuel badly and emits more air filters and spark plugs matter more than most owners assume.
Do not ignore visible exhaust smoke. Black or blue smoke is a fault, not a quirk. It signals a problem that is costing you fuel as well as polluting, and it is exactly what enforcement teams look for.
Check emission-control components. If something has been removed or damaged, emissions rise sharply.
