A teaser from Geely Auto Pakistan has put 24 October in front of everyone, and the Geely launch in Pakistan looks days away. What the teaser actually says is thinner than the headlines suggest.
The caption, in full, is “The wait is almost over.” It names no model and no event. The date appears in the video, but Geely has not said what that date marks. It could be a launch, a public unveiling, or an announcement about either.
The Bestway and Proton Connection Nobody Is Mentioning
This is the part that makes the whole thing make sense, and three verified facts have to be put side by side.
Geely appointed Bestway as exclusive importer and distributor of its Geely Galaxy brand, handling homologation, dealerships, sales and after-sales. Separately, Bestway Automotive has acquired Al-Haj Automotive Proton's Pakistan assembler an acquisition the Competition Commission of Pakistan approved after a Phase-I assessment.
And here is the third piece. The two cars expected to launch are already Protons under another badge. The EX2 is sold as the Proton eMas 5 and the EX5 as the Proton eMas 7 in Malaysia, Singapore and Nepal. Geely holds a substantial stake in Proton.
So Bestway has bought the company that built Protons here, and the Geely cars it is about to sell are the same vehicles Proton sells elsewhere. That is why this partner, and why these two models. It also makes the local-assembly talk credible rather than aspirational, because the plant and the vehicles already know each other.
Is October 24 the Official Geely Launch Date?
Not officially, no. And there is a reason to hold that lightly.
When Geely's Pakistan entry was announced on 5 July 2026, the launch was planned for the third quarter of 2026. That quarter ended on 30 September. Today is 20 days past it, and 107 days after the announcement, with no launch yet.
A programme that has already run past its own stated quarter is not one whose teaser date should be treated as a contract. Expect something on 24 October. Do not plan around it.
Which Geely Cars Could Be Revealed?
Two are expected and a third is being talked about. The naming is genuinely confusing, so here it is straight.
| Model | What it is | Also called |
|---|---|---|
| EX2 | Electric hatchback | Xingyuan, E2, eMas 5 |
| EX5 | Electric SUV | Galaxy E5, E5, eMas 7 |
| Starray | The EX5's plug-in hybrid | Galaxy Starship 7, EM-i |
The Starray is not an unrelated third car. It is the plug-in hybrid relative of the EX5, and its appearance on 24 October is unconfirmed.
Geely EX2: China's Best-Selling Car, Full Stop
The EX2 arrives with a credential most cars entering Pakistan do not have. Sold in China as the Geely Xingyuan, it was the best-selling car of any kind in China in 2025 — not in its segment, not among EVs, overall.
457,756 units, against 52,659 the year before. That is 8.7 times the volume in twelve months. It led every other passenger car for eighteen consecutive months from January 2025 and passed the Tesla Model Y as China's best-selling electric car.
Mechanically it is a rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive subcompact hatchback on Geely's GEA platform, 4,135 mm long on a 2,650 mm wheelbase, between 1,215 and 1,330 kg. Motors run from 58 to 85 kW (78 to 114 hp) and the battery is always lithium iron phosphate, in packs from 30.12 kWh to 47.14 kWh depending on market.
Geely EX5: The One That Decides Everything
The EX5 is the volume car in this story, a compact electric SUV aimed squarely at where Pakistani buyers actually spend.
| Battery | CLTC | WLTP |
|---|---|---|
| 49.52 kWh | 440 km | 345 km |
| 60.22 kWh | 530 km | 425 km |
| 68.39 kWh | 610 km | not listed |
| 70.01 kWh | 635 km | not listed |
All packs are lithium iron phosphate. Which of these, if any, comes to Pakistan is unannounced.
Look at the first two rows. The identical car is 440 km on CLTC and 345 km on WLTP — a gap of 95 km, or 21.6%. On the 60 kWh pack it is 105 km, or 19.8%.
That is why any Pakistan range figure quoted without naming its cycle tells you nothing. A fifth of the number is in the test, not the car. We explained why in why electric range drops below the rated figure.
On power, the earlier car is front-wheel drive with 160 kW (215 hp) and 320 Nm, 0 to 100 in 6.9 seconds. The 2026 onwards version switches to rear-wheel drive with 245 kW (329 hp), a 53% increase, and drops to 5.8 seconds on the big battery.
Charging is 7 kW AC single-phase, 11 kW three-phase, and a 110 kW DC peak that does 30 to 80% in about twenty minutes.
What Geely's Own Page Says, and Its Own Warning
Geely's official EX5 page lists a 160 kW drive unit, a “Short Blade Battery” with no capacity given, the Flyme Auto system, a 13.8-inch head-up display and sixteen speakers. On safety it claims five stars from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP — two named programmes, which is a real claim rather than a vague one.
It also carries its own warning, worth quoting: “The pictures and data are for reference only. Please refer to the actual vehicle in your country/region.” That is the manufacturer telling you not to assume the Pakistan car matches the one on the website. Treat every figure above as the international specification until Geely Pakistan publishes its own.
Prices, Bookings and What Is Still Missing
Nothing has been announced. No price, no booking amount, no variant list, no warranty terms and no delivery timeline. Both models were announced as arriving initially as completely built-up imports, with no local assembly date given.
Our existing guide to the Geely EX2 and EX5 coming to Pakistan covers the background, and we will update it when real numbers exist rather than before.
What to Check Before You Book Anything
Which battery you are getting, and the cycle on its range. The EX5 exists with five different packs. A number without CLTC or WLTP beside it is not a specification.
The battery warranty in writing. On an electric car this is most of the value, and nothing has been published.
Charging. The connector, whether a home charger is included, and where you can actually charge — our charging station guide covers what exists.
Service coverage and parts. The Al-Haj network is the reason to be optimistic here, but ask which workshops are actually trained on these cars. Our guide to buying an EV in Pakistan lists the rest, and electric vehicles and rising petrol costs covers whether the sums work.
Final Thoughts
Something is happening on 24 October, and the teaser says only that the wait is almost over. The models expected are the EX2 and the EX5, with the Starray plug-in hybrid unconfirmed, and no price, booking or warranty has been published for any of them.
The reason to take this seriously is not the teaser. It is that Bestway owns Proton's former Pakistan assembler, and these two Geelys are the cars Proton already sells as the eMas 5 and eMas 7. That is a far better foundation than a date in a video.
