The Deepal S09 has not launched in Pakistan yet and is expected to arrive in September 2026, subject to official confirmation.

That distinction matters. Expected timing and a confirmed launch date are different things, and dates for new models frequently move. Treat September as an indication rather than a commitment until Master Changan says otherwise.

What Is the Deepal S09?

Deepal is Changan's new-energy brand, and the S09 is its flagship a full-size luxury SUV built around three rows of seating.

Pakistani buyers already have a reference point. The Deepal S05 launched here in November 2025 as the country's first locally assembled range-extended electric SUV, produced by Master Changan Motors. The S09 sits a clear step above it in size, seating and positioning.

Deepal S09 Powertrain and Range

The S09 uses REEV Range Extended Electric Vehicle technology, also called EREV.

Here's what that means, and why it isn't a plug-in hybrid. In a REEV, the electric motors always drive the wheels. The petrol engine has no mechanical connection to them at all it runs purely as a generator, producing electricity to feed the motor or recharge the battery. Every kilometre you travel is driven electrically.

In a plug-in hybrid, by contrast, the petrol engine can drive the wheels directly. That's a fundamentally different arrangement, and it's why the two terms shouldn't be used interchangeably.

Why this suits Pakistan particularly well: public charging remains concentrated in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, with motorway chargers along the main corridors and thin coverage elsewhere. A pure electric SUV makes that limitation your problem on every long trip. A REEV doesn't you charge at home for daily driving, and the range extender handles everything else without needing infrastructure that isn't there yet.

The battery is a 40.18 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack, delivering 220 km of pure electric range on the CLTC cycle. Top speed is 205 km/h.

Two things about that range figure. CLTC is an optimistic test cycle typically 25–35% higher than the WLTP equivalent for the same vehicle so expect meaningfully less in practice, and less again in Pakistani heat with the air conditioning running. Even so, a realistic figure would still cover most people's daily driving on electricity alone.

LFP chemistry is the right choice here. Lithium iron phosphate handles more charge cycles, runs at lower thermal risk than older lithium-ion types, and tolerates daily charging to 100% all of which matters more in Pakistani summers than in cooler markets.

Deepal S09 Interior and Seating Capacity

The manufacturer's specification lists the S09 as a 5-door, 6-seat SUV across all variants three rows, with two individual seats in the middle row rather than a bench.

That six-seat layout is a genuine advantage, not a compromise. Captain's chairs give middle-row passengers more space and, more usefully, leave a walkway between them so getting to the third row doesn't mean folding a seat every time. Anyone who regularly carries children will appreciate the difference on the school run.

At 5,205 mm long with a 1,996 mm width, there's real space to work with. Full interior equipment levels have not been announced.

No official price has been announced. Any figure circulating now is speculation. 

Pricing will depend on whether the S09 is imported or assembled locally, duty treatment, and where Deepal chooses to position it against established rivals. For context, the smaller Deepal S05 launched at Rs. 9,999,000 ex-factory and as the flagship, the S09 would sit meaningfully above that.

Three established SUVs occupy this space though at 5,205 mm the S09 is substantially longer than any of them, which will matter for city parking:

• Toyota Fortuner the durability and resale benchmark, with a body-on-frame chassis
• Hyundai Santa Fe the comfort-oriented alternative

The S09's differentiator would be the powertrain. None of those three offers range-extended electric drive, so the S09 would compete on running costs and refinement rather than on established reputation. Against the Fortuner in particular, that's the trade: lower running costs versus decades of proven resale value and a service network in every city.

Will the Deepal S09 Launch in Pakistan?

The groundwork exists. Master Changan Motors already assembles the S05 locally, which means an established plant, a parts pipeline and a dealer network already trained on high-voltage vehicles. Adding a second Deepal model is a far smaller step than starting from nothing.

What remains open is timing, pricing, and whether the S09 would be imported or assembled here. That last question matters more than most buyers realise locally assembled vehicles keep parts in the country, which is the difference between a two-day repair and a three-week wait.
