New Petrol Price in Pakistan: Petrol Drops, Diesel Rises Slightly

The petrol price in Pakistan today is Rs 379.31 per litre, down Rs 2.71, while high-speed diesel has gone the other way and now costs Rs 390.11, up by 31 paisa.

Both rates took effect on Thursday 22 October 2026. Because prices are now revised daily, check our continuously updated Pakistan fuel rates page before relying on any dated figure.

New Petrol and Diesel Prices 22 October 2026

Fuel Previous New Change
Petrol (MS) Rs 382.02 Rs 379.31 −Rs 2.71
High-speed diesel (HSD) Rs 389.80 Rs 390.11 +Re 0.31

Per litre, effective 22 October 2026. Notified by the Petroleum Division on 21 October, with OGRA revising ex-depot prices under the federal government's petroleum pricing mechanism. Kerosene and light diesel rates were not included in the announcement.

Diesel Now Costs More Than Petrol

This is the part worth more attention than the headline cut. At Rs 390.11 against Rs 379.31, high-speed diesel is Rs 10.80 a litre dearer than petrol.

That matters beyond diesel owners. Diesel moves freight, buses, tractors and generators, so its price feeds into transport charges and from there into the cost of almost everything that travels by road.

A petrol cut, by contrast, lands mostly with private car owners. So on the same day, car drivers got slightly cheaper fuel while the goods they buy got marginally more expensive to move.

Prices Now Change Every Day

If you still think of fuel prices as a fortnightly event, that changed. Under a mechanism announced on 17 July 2026, rates are reviewed and notified daily, replacing the earlier weekly system.

The Petroleum Division's own notification list bears this out. In October it issued prices for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd to 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th to 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th to 19th, 20th and 21st — with weekends grouped into a single notification.

The practical consequence for drivers is simple: a figure you read yesterday may already be wrong, and any article carrying a date is a snapshot rather than a current rate.

How the Week Has Moved

A single day's change tells you very little when revisions are daily. The direction over a week is more useful, and both fuels have come down.

Fuel 16 October 22 October Week
Petrol Rs 390.23 Rs 379.31 −Rs 10.92
High-speed diesel Rs 396.96 Rs 390.11 −Rs 6.85

Endpoints taken from the respective dated notifications as reported. Petrol has fallen further than diesel over the week, which is why the two have swapped places.

Why the Two Fuels Moved in Opposite Directions

Petrol and diesel are priced separately, and they are not substitutes on the international market. Each has its own benchmark quotation, its own import premium and its own shipping and handling costs.

The Petroleum Division attributed this revision to global developments, naming movements in Platts rates, premiums and incidentals. When the benchmark for one product softens while the other firms, the two can move apart on the same day.

We are not going to attribute the change to any single cause beyond that, because the build-up behind each rate is not published line by line. Anyone telling you precisely why the rupee or a levy did it is guessing. Rising fuel costs are also what keep pushing buyers towards electric vehicles in Pakistan.

Where to Check the Official Rate

With daily revisions, going to the source is worth the thirty seconds. The Ministry of Energy's Petroleum Division announcements carry each dated notification as it is issued.

One caution: the official listing can lag the press by a few hours, so the newest rate sometimes reaches the newspapers first. If the date you need is not up yet, it usually appears shortly afterwards.

Final Thoughts

The latest petrol price in Pakistan is Rs 379.31 and high-speed diesel is Rs 390.11, effective 22 October 2026. Over the week both have fallen, petrol by nearly Rs 11 and diesel by close to Rs 7.

But diesel is now the dearer of the two, and that is the change that will show up in freight bills rather than at the pump.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the petrol price in Pakistan on 22 October 2026?▾
Rs 379.31 a litre, after a reduction of Rs 2.71 from the Rs 382.02 charged the previous day. The Petroleum Division notified the figure on Wednesday 21 October for use the following day. Since revisions are issued every day, confirm the current rate before acting on this number.
What is the diesel price in Pakistan today?▾
High-speed diesel stands at Rs 390.11, having gone up by 31 paisa from Rs 389.80. That puts it Rs 10.80 above petrol, an unusual position with consequences for haulage and farm costs rather than for ordinary motorists. Kerosene and light diesel were not covered in the same announcement.
How often do fuel prices change in Pakistan now?▾
Every day, following a switch announced in mid-July 2026 that replaced the previous weekly arrangement. Saturdays and Sundays are usually covered by one combined notification. If you have seen claims that revisions fall on fixed dates such as the 1st and the 16th, that describes an older system and is no longer accurate.
Why did petrol fall while diesel went up?▾
The two are priced independently, each against its own international quotation with separate import premiums and handling charges, so they can diverge on any given day. Officials pointed to global movements in Platts rates, premiums and incidentals. Nobody publishes the full build-up behind each rate, so a more precise explanation would be speculation.
Where can I check the official rate myself?▾
The Ministry of Energy's Petroleum Division publishes each notification under its news listing, dated as it is issued, which is the authoritative record. Bear in mind it occasionally trails the newspapers by a few hours, so a brand-new rate may reach reporters before it is posted there.
